My Approach:

I utilize a person-centered, strengths based approach to connect with each client.  I specialize working with those experiencing life transitions, desiring to improve relationship dynamics, and who cope with anxiety, depression and a history of trauma. I draw from a variety of therapeutic orientations including cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness based cognitive therapy, existential therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, somatic experiencing, internal family systems, and psycho-dynamic.  I am certified to treat complex trauma.

Background:

I have diverse experience in private practice, clinical supervision, administration, community behavioral health, school-based services, HIV care, a group home for geriatric, severely and persistently mentally ill clients, and an emergency shelter for immigrants. The variety of experiences deeply influence who I am and enrich my practice by connecting with the human condition experienced by all.

Education:

BA in Psychology and Spanish, Master's in Social Work (2005 - University of Michigan)

I am currently licensed to provide mental health services in Ohio, Florida, and Connecticut.

About Jennifer

Personal Information

Just as I believe that not any one box of symptoms can define a person, I am also defined by more than my profession. I am currently happily enjoying mid-life with my husband, hound, and three cats. I have a personal mindfulness practice that helps to ground me. I have existential questions and seek to make meaning through my life experiences. I have lived in several states and consider myself rooted to those I love more than place. I have experienced profound grief, unexplained infertility, and a multitude of waves in life. For hobbies and pastimes I enjoy reading, sports (a little too much sometimes), birding, cooking, hiking, kayaking and cycling. My biggest supports are my husband, family, and loved ones. I have few, but immensely strong friendships which sustain me through the changing seasons of life. My guilty pleasure is true crime. While I don’t enjoy flying across the world, I enjoy visiting family in India and international travel and education has been incredibly meaningful in shaping my view of the world. I believe that a beautiful, fascinating novel could be written about the life of any human being, if we were allowed a glimpse on the inside. This is a tiny peak into mine.
